MY so-called LIFE

SRP $14.98 1.33:1 DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 BMG

Claire Danes won an emmy, and deservedly so, for her incredible portrayal of a teenager in probably the best television series about adolescents so far, "MY SO CALLED LIFE".  What made the short-lived series so great, was that it was actually as much for adults as teens.  Angela's parents have the same anguish and concerns that their very mature child has!  Writer/creator Winnie Holtzman demonstrates a real flair for powerful yet honest dialogue, and what the cinematography achieved in terms of atmosphere for the show, would make Bertolluci drool!    BMG has announced plans to release at least three dvds, each with 3 episodes apiece.  We hope they won't stop there, as it would be disappointing to not have the whole series on dvd.

We also hope that BMG puts more time into the quality of their duplication process.  Out of the three episodes, only the last one was substantially better than VHS.  The first episode had a great deal of shimmering problems!  The colors are wonderful and there's great depth, when "shimmering" wasn't present!  The dolby digital 5.1 remastering makes for  a tremendous added value to the dvd.  The music and stories are greatly aided by the wonderful score.  We also found problems with the preview options, not allowing any of them to play without breaking up in a distorted fashion, but are unable to tell if this was simply a defect in the disc, unrelated to the mastering of the dvd.
