A warm-hearted french comedy, "MY WIFE IS AN ACTRESS," has been released by COLUMBIA TRISTAR. The story follows the turmoil facing sports writer Yvan as he faces the daily intrusions, obstacles, and perceived threats of romantic dalliances, facing his wife, an actress. It helps the film's realism in that the stars of the film are actually a romantic couple in real life. And, one can't help but wonder how much of the film is based on reality.
It's frustrating enough to have to deal with his wife's fans, but when she begins filming a new movie, Ivan's worries get the worst of him, although creating some genuinely funny and poignant moments.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film's correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. There's a surprising amount of grain in the image. Color values are generally solid, although their depth in certain sequences is limited. Contrast is fine, with generally deep blacks and grays. Fleshtones appear natural.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has included a DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 mix for the film's french soundtrack. Surrounds are restrained, however, there are some effective effects through them. Most directional effects are focused towards the front soundstage. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
Yvan is the film's director, writer and actor, so the running commentary with him is a welcome supplement. He provides a surprising amount of production information, and it's never dull. He also offers a fair amount of information regarding the film's development and thoughts relating to the creative process as well. It's never boring, and often funny. It is in french, but there's an option for english subtitles.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has also included the film's trailer as well as a "deleted scenes" segment. The "deleted scenes" were properly excised, adding nothing to the film's narrative. A featurette is also provided, offering some brief interviews and "behind-the-scenes" moments.
