Nico Icon is the subject of this documentary, which includes interviews with those from
the '60s familiar with her, as well as archival footage and more! While its fast
pace is captivating, one can't help but become bothered by the ever-increasing realization
that the star of this film turned her own son onto heroin.
The dvd transfer is fine, with varying archival footage quality. The interview
material looks terrific, with fine color and contrast. The digital mono is fine.

Bryan Brown, Edward Woodward, and Jack Thompson star in "Breaker Morant", a
small masterpiece from director Bruce Beresford. Part courtroom drama, part
adventure, the story involves the court martial of three soldiers for their activities in
the Boer War. The film raises more questions than it answers, and it deserves credit
for not taking a simple way out. The dvd transfer is generally sharp, appearing to
have been taken from the same master as the CRITERION laserdisc, sharing the same 1.85:1
aspect ratio, consistent contrast, and subdued color values. The digital mono sound
is unremarkable.

Bryan Brown of "Breaker Morant" and "Cocktail" fame, gives a
terrific performance in "Dead Heart", a suspense thriller from FOX LORBER.
While it works well as a mystery/thriller, it also serves as a social commentary.
Brown plays a lawman investigates the death of an aborigine whom may have been
murdered for having had relations with a white woman. The pace is gripping, and the
ending while disturbing, is satisfying. The transfer is first-rate, with excellent
contrast even in the darkest scenes. The stereo sound is fine, though limited in
directional effects.

"My Favorite Season" achieved "Top Ten" rankings on numerous film
critics lists of 1996. Cathrine Deneuve and Daniel Auteuil star as the brother and
sister of a severely troubled family. While it explores relationships in a fresh
way, much in the same way as "Ordinary People" did, there's no
psychiatrist here. The audience is the impartial observer as conflicts, hidden
secrets, and raw emotions surface with an honest beauty to them. The dvd transfer is
excellent with a proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio intact, vivid colors and perfect fleshtones.
While the dolby stereo sound offers a few directional effects, its main purpose is
for background atmosphere.

Russian Director Andrei Tarkovsky has always created haunting images(Andrei Rublev, The
Sacrifice) and "NOSTALGHIA" is no exception. Thankfully, FOX LORBER allows
all of his imagery to be retained within the proper 1.66:1 aspect ratio given to this dvd.
The clarity of this dvd is obvious from the first scene and throughout.
Tarkovsky utilizes light and shadow in stylistic manner, and the contrast is always
excellent. The digital mono is unremarkable.
