Director Nicholas Hytner's latest film, "The Object of My Affection" is worthwhile for many reasons. Most importantly, for its unconventional, generally uncompromising manner in depicting the various problems of relationships without concerns for sexuality. In "Object of My Affection", there's abuse and people being taken for granted in straight and gay relationships. There's also poignant, unrequited love. Anniston is excellent in her depiction of a naive young girl falling in love with her hay roommate. The entire cast is outstanding and the story unfolds in a deliberate, patient fashion. The picture quality is often excellent, although some of the night sequences suffer from grain. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is used sparingly, but with great effect in punctuating key moments with directional effects for atmosphere as well as background theme for more inspiring moments.
