Ralph Fiennes gives an unforgettable performance as a priest whose passion for helping those less fortunate is equaled by his passion for gambling.  When he meets an Australian businesswoman over a card game, their interests merge in an unpredictable way that changes their lives forever.  Director Gillian Armstrong creates many beautiful moments in the same fashion as she's previously done in "My Brilliant Career".    Her widescreen images are perfectly complimented in this slick looking 2.35:1 transfer.  The contrast is wonderful. Fleshtones are perfect and the various hues are vibrant.  The film's atmosphere is also enchanced with the Dolby Digital soundtrack.   It's surprising how much the various separational effects are utilized in creating atmosphere throughout the film.
