SRP $29.98 2.35:1(16:9) MONO ANCHOR BAY

ANCHOR BAY is releasing some of Brigitte Bardot's films on dvd, and without much fanfare for some unexplained reason.  Director Roger
Vadim's "PLEASE NOT NOW" is a surprisingly effective comedy.  Bardot stars as an airhead model finding sexual liberation along with pie
fights, and other comedic devices, after her boyfriend dumps her for an
American heiress.  It's to Bardot's credit that she can appear so
believable within the confines of one slapstick scenario after another.
The film features a famous nude dance sequence with Bardot, and while
tame by today's standards, is still certain to raise some eyebrows.

The transfer looks great.  ANCHOR BAY chose to present the film with its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and 16:9 enhancement.  The contrast is excellent!  Blacks and grays are perfectly rendered, and there is a generally sharp look to the film.  The monaural sound is fine, although distorted at high volume.  The film is offered in its original French language with optional English subtitles.

Bardot lives up to her reputation as a "sex kitten" in "NAUGHTY GIRL". She plays the daughter of a Parisian Nightclub owner, left in the hands of a womanizing lounge singer after her father is accused of forgery. The script, co-written by her sometime boyfriend, Roger Vadim, is unpredictable and funny.

The transfer is in great shape.  ANCHOR BAY has presented the transfer with 16:9 enhancement and its proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  There are some famous Technicolor dance sequences here, and they look good, although there's some minor speckles and scratches within them.  Fleshtones appear natural looking and colors are solid.  The monaural sound is fine, with a wider range in frequency than many mono tracks. The original French language version is offered with optional English subtitles.

James Garner stars in this DISNEY comedy/western as a man on the run from the U.S. Cavalry for desertion.  During his "run" he becomes
friends with some unusual accomplices, including a camel, her baby, and of course, the ten-year-old "little Indian" of the title.  The film
mixes comedy and adventure effectively, and makes itself easy for
repeated viewings. The supporting cast including Vera Miles and Pat
Hingle are excellent!

The transfer is extremely sharp.  Color values are solid and fleshtones
are natural looking.  There are no artifacts, and grain is minimal.
Still, we wish ANCHOR BAY had offered this release with 16:9
enhancement.  The monaural sound is fine, with all dialogue intelligible
and free from distortion.
