NEW LINE has pumped up their release shedule recently, and while "POISON IVY" and its sequels may not be considered great fare, the transfers have received excellent treatment in every aspect.  Drew Barrymore stars in the original "POISON IVY" as the young Jezebel out to take over dying Cheryl Ladd's husband and family.   The film plays like almost like a soft core cable movie(much like Zalman King's films) and while it offers little in the way of suspense, there are some titillating moments and the direction isn't that bad at all.  Director Katt Shea Ruben went on to direct "The Rage:Carrie 2")  The transfer is excellent, with perfect color values.  Blacks and grays are perfectly rendered.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound, while not extremely active, adds significantly to the film's musical environment. The unrated version offers a few snippets more of naked breasts, etc.

Alyssa Milano plays "Lily" in "POISON IVY 2:LILY".  This sequel "doesn't" pick up where the first one left off.  Still, it's fun(in a corny, bad way). When Lily uncovers a lost diary, the sensual secrets that are unlocked transform her until a married professor succumbs to her charms, with danger soon following.  The film has less quality than the orignal, but Alyssa Milano looks incredible here, and helps make this a guilty pleasure.  The transfer looks excellent, with a near-flawless presentation and excellent contrast/color values. The dolby digital 5.1 sound mix is subdued for the most part, but still more engaging than the standard stereo track offered.  The unrated version offers less than 4 minutes of additional running time, and while it's supposed to be for steamy moments, we couldn't tell what footage was new.

"POISON IVY:THE NEW SEDUCTION" is so ludicrous that it's hard to recommend it, but then nothing in the series is supposed to be taken seriously.  While there are some engaging ,erotic moments, at least the predecessors made an attempt to offer "some" believability".  We're supposed to believe, right off, that "IVY" had a beautiful but evil sister, Violet.  Jamie Pressly of the Jerry Springer film "Ringmaster" stars. Violet is up to no good when she seduces her friend's father "and" his fiance!  The transfer, as in the other two films of the series, is excellent.  The contrast is perfect, no artifacts, and perfect color values.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound mix is subdued, but effective when used.   The Unrated version offers a few snippets more of bare breasts than in the R-rated version.

Alyssa Milano plays a young colledge student suffering from weird dreams wherein she's visited by a mysterious, seductive vampire.  Forced to choose between the erotic longings for her dream lover and her actual boyfriend, the line between reality and the supernatural becomes blurred.  Director Anne Goursaud(Poison Ivy 2) is back with Milano here, and she offers a  more innovative production design to this film with some stunning visuals for a modestly budgeted film.  The transfer looks sharp for the most part, although there is grain infrequently throughout, and the black levels aren't as well controlled as in the "POISON IVY" series.  The dolby digital 5.1 soundmix is more active than the other series, with an offering of LFE effects as well as directional effects.  The Unrated version doesn't offer anything discernible over the R-rated version, but there's plenty of erotic moments in both versions.

While not as consistently funny as satires like "AIRPLANE", "NATIONAL LAMPOON'S LOADED WEAPON 1" offers enough funny moments to make it worthwhile for repeated viewings.  Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson star in this satire which spoofs numerous films, but most consistently targets the "LETHAL WEAPON" franchise.  The film's also got some beautiful girls, big star cameos, and the late Great Phil Hartman.

NEW LINE has gone all out for this release as they do for all of their films.  The transfer has outstanding detail, even in the darkest scenes.  Black and grays are perfectly rendered.  There are no artifacts present anywhere.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound offers a multitude of directional as well as atmospheric effects.

Jeff Goldblum gives an outstanding, unpredictable performance in "DEEP COVER", a film largely ignored, but receiving a 2nd chance for cult status, thankfully due to an outstanding dvd presentation from NEW LINE.  Screenwriter Michael Tolkin has created a complicated, dark world filled with corruption, drugs and just really bad people.  Well directed, suspenseful, and visually arresting, "DEEP COVER" is gripping from beginning to end, and should not be missed!   The transfer looks excellent!  Blacks and grays are perfectly rendered, colors are strong and solid.  The dolby digital 5.1 sound mix is extremely active with a multitude of directional "and" atmospheric effects.
