SRP $28.99 2.35:1 Dolby TrueHD 5.1 WARNER BROS

It's hard not to be disappointed by the remake of the '70s disaster film, "THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE" with the new Wolfgang Petersen Film "POSEIDON."  Petersen has been one of the most consistently impressive directors in Hollywood and even while flawed, "TROY" and "THE PERFECT STORM" were often visually stunning and never dull. He's also been quite skilled in creating edge-of-the seat suspense scenes, so a big budget disaster film seemed right up his alley. For pure entertainment, "POSEIDON" does provide its share of excitement. For the most part, from beginning to end, the pacing moves along at break-neck speed and one thrill comes after another. Unfortunately, the script to "POSEIDON" makes one appreciate how much more the depth of character played in making the original film work.  All of the characters in "POSEIDON" are cartoon-ish. The dialogue is far worse than mediocre, making viewers really pity the actors. When anything but buxom, Emmy Rossum refers to her cleavage as the "twins" to her father, one wants to hide in embarrassment. And, that is just one of many bad moments. The film plays like "LOVE BOAT" with a much bigger budget , darker storyline, and even poorer dialogue.

WARNER BROS. has provided a 1080p/VC-1 transfer and 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  It's a flawless transfer!!! Colors are as vivid as possibly imaginable on hd-dvd.  The detail is outstanding in every scene. No matter the shot, the depth of field is amazing! WOW!!! No artifacts to be found here and the image pops off the screen over and over!

WARNER BROS. has provided a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix.  What an experience!!!  This is one of the best, aggressive mixes to appear on hd-dvd thus far! Petersen moves the film along with increasing tension, consistently heightened by even the most subtle effects. Discrete/panning and surround effects are often ingeniously created for maximum nail-biting impact.  Bass effects will push the envelope on even the best sub-woofer. Dialogue is always intelligible, even within layers of sound and music effects.

The three featurettes from the dvd have been carried over for this release.
