BUENA VISTA has released a day and date release of both blu-ray and dvd for "PRIMEVAL."  The theatrical trailers really went out of the way to push this one as as all out serial killer/horror thriller and many will expecting such will be sorely disappointed.  When a reporters lack of ethics gets him pushed out of virtually all news coverage, he gets the chance for a story, in covering a crocodile that's much larger than usual, and that has been terrorizing an African village for decades. He's given a variety of characters to work with, many of which are only scenes away from being eaten.

There's little original here, however, the film's directed well enough to keep one's interest. It's not very good, but there are more than a few thrills and interesting moments, placing it above most violent films of the past year. The biggest flaw is in trying to throw political overtones within the plot. It doesn't work!

BUENA VISTA has provided a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer with 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  It's generally a great looking transfer. Colors are extremely vibrant, complimenting the exotic locations. The blacks and grays are deep and contrast is typically excellent, providing numerous "pop off the screen" moments!  In direct comparison to the dvd counterpart, detail is noticeably superior on the blu-ray. The dvd offers solid colors, but they're never as rich as the blu-ray and detail is impressive on dvd, but falls far short of what's achieved on the blu-ray, as well. In fact, the detail is so much more obvious on blu-ray, that the CGI effects are more obvious as well. So, unfortunately, the dvd makes the effects less artificial looking in comparison!

BUENA VISTA has provided a PCM 5.1 mix for the blu-ray and a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix for the dvd.  Both mixes are aggressive, however the PCM mix offers better overall dynamic range.  Ambient effects are abundant on both mixes and it's an entertaining experience for both formats. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

BUENA VISTA has included a variety of extras, including a director's commentary(so-so), deleted scenes and a mini-documentary.
