While the original "PUMPKINHEAD" film actually had some entertainment value, it's previous sequel, and now the third film, "PUMPKINHEAD: ASHES TO ASHES" are insulting. The latest in the series features Lance Henriksen far too little, as a ghost, and only for a few minutes. The rest of the new cast is pretty bad and the location used to film this(ROMANIA), for budget reasons, hurts the film more than it helps. At least, initially, the premise to "ASHES TO ASHES" offers some potential. Townspeople try to raise the demonic PUMPKINHEAD to get revenge on the crooks who've been selling body parts from their recently deceased loved ones for profit, unaware of what they've unleashed. It's sort of a "GOLEM-esque" idea.
Unfortunately, this one's poorly executed on every level and the low budget is still not a good excuse for some of the worst special effects imaginable.
SONY has provided a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. Colors are solid and contrast is fine, but there are a surprising amount of artifacts popping up throughout the film.
SONY has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. It's not aggressive, but there are some great surround effects and some effective moments wherein the bass is used creatively.
Several trailers are included.
