Recently, there has actually been an increase of lesser known, wonderful, independent films being made. Two of them, “RAISING” VICTOR VARGAS” and “ALL THE REAL GIRLS” are being released on dvd by COLUMBIA TRISTAR.
Writer/director Peter Sollett has crafted a tale exploring the rites of passage of one Victor Vargas, a angst-ridden teenager living in New York’s city, trying to find his way in the world, while encumbered with the persistent, domineering feelings of sexual desire and machismo. When he begins to fall in love with a young woman, who, to his surprise, isn’t completely turned off of his awkward gestures towards a relationship, there’s hope not just for him, but for an audience craving films that are uplifting in a realistic way!
While there are a few subplots that don’t work themselves through in a completely satisfactory way at the end, it’s still an invigorating experience, and we can’t recommend it enough!
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film’s 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with 16:9 enhancement. While filmed on a “true” independent, modest budget, one can’t tell this from the image. It looks great! Colors are solid and there’s excellent detail in every single scene. Contrast is also impressive, allowing for excellent detail in darker moments. Fleshtones appear natural.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has included a Dolby Digital 2.0 mix, which is fairly restrained. There’s not much in the way of surround involvement, nor is it missed. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
Several trailers are included.
