One of the most delightful surprise of 2007, "RATATOUILLE"  is now available on dvd and blu-ray from BUENA VISTA.  Director Brad Bird continues his streak of making "fantastic" animated films for the entire family. "RATATOUILLE" joins "THE IRON GIANT" and "THE INCREDIBLES" as animated classics that transcend the genre, appealing to young and old in imaginative, humorous and poignant ways.

The plot focuses on Remy, a rat with aspirations to be a great chef, in spite of his father and brother thinking he's crazy for putting too much attention into food preparation, rather than just enjoying regular garbage.  When Remy makes a fabulous soup that a soup chef gets credit for, the chef(Linquini)take on Remy as his teacher and secret teacher. Of course, there are some nefarious characters and a bit of mild romance(with a beatnik attitude)thrown in, making this one of the most unusual, endearing comedies of recent memory. The PIXAR animation is outstanding!

BUENA VISTA has provided the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio(16:9 for dvd) WOW! The dvd ranks up there with the best looking dvds available! The bold, vibrant colors, incredible contrast and detail make this a "DEMONSTRATION QUALITY" dvd!  As good as the dvd looks, the blu-ray, encoded with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4, is notably better. While colors and detail were great on dvd, the blu-ray showcases more subtle changes in hues, with even more depth, making this image jump off the screen, in scene after scene! "RATATOUILLE" on blu-ray, ranks up there with the best looking presentations in any hi-def format!

BUENA VISTA offers a Dolby Digital 5.1 EX mix for dvd, and PCM 5.1 mix for the blu-ray.  While the mix is dialogue-driven, surround effects and musical cues, kick in at key moments, making it an immersive experience for the listener.  The blu-ray's PCM 5.1 mix offers a clear advantage over the dvd mix.  Surrounds are more aggressive and bass effects are loftier and more frequent. The dynamic range is marvelous as well. While the dvd is quite good, the PCM mix on blu-ray makes this one of the best blu-ray sound presentations available!

Both dvd and blu-ray offer two great animated shorts, deleted scenes and a featurette. The blu-ray also offers a great audio commentary with the director and producer.
