Director Antoine Fuqua has created a slick entertaining action film with "THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS". It's been released twice previously but this version incorporates deleted scenes that were only offered as supplements previously. The new scenes don't really add anything to the already highly entertaining film, and unfortunately, this new extended cut, doesn't offer an alternate ending, previously provided on another release.
The story follows Chow Yun-Fat as he takes on his criminal boss and "replacement killers" sent after him and his family, when he refuses to kill the young son of a cop. He enlists the aid of a master forger(Sorvino)and the sparks and increased action take hold of the rest of the film. It's a pumped up film in every way, the visuals, music, atmosphere, everything is pushed for maximum effect. Somehow, it works!
"THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS" while filled with holes in logic, pushes the story forward at a breakneck pace and it's well worth the ride. While the new "EXTENDED CUT" is probably the better of the versions out there, even without new scenes standing out, it's still disappointing at the lack of an alternate ending, and the previously available audio commentary with the film's director has also been cut!
SONY has provided a stunning transfer! Colors are rich and the detail is flawless. There is some infrequent grain, but this is an impressive transfer overall!
SONY has provided a great Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. It's extremely aggressive, offering loads of bass and panning effects. One demonstration quality scene in Meg's apartment really creates one of the best surround moments in recent dvd history!
