The Return of Martin Guerre marks yet another outstanding performance from Gerard DePardieu.  Made in 1982 and re-made as "Sommersby" with Richard Gere 10 years later, this one's a classic worth owning in any movie fan's dvd collection.  

While it doesn't have the budget "SOMMERSBY" had, its settings and production design are incredible! The transfer is sharp, with excellent contrast and clarity.  Fleshtones are consistently accurate, and the 1.66:1 aspect ratio, while not enhanced for 16:9 tvs, still allows for the full subtitles to appear in the proper setting for 16:9 tvs.  The monaural sound is unremarkable.
