DREAMWORKS has a hit with "ROAD TRIP". While some of their
films have been hit or miss, this one took off at the box office, and for a
change, the masses were right! It's a fun film! Any potential
viewers not partial to Tom Green, don't worry! He's actually more of a
bookend than a major character. "ROAD TRIP" attempts to be a
"ANIMAL HOUSE" for the millennium.
While it's not as ingenious as that, it does have its share of
side-splitting, gross-out humor! The thin plot revolves around some
college kids whom "decide" to make a "road trip" while
seeking to recover a damaging videotape accidentally sent out to the girlfriend
of the main character.
Brecken Meyer is terrific as the main character, but the film's success
really depends on the chemistry of the ensemble cast, all of whom are
terrific!
In keeping with the "gross-out" raunchy humor of "ANIMAL
HOUSE", "ROAD TRIP" makes certain that there's plenty of nudity
and "potty" type humor.
DREAMWORKS has presented this dvd in its correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio.
As the studio has always done so well, it's also presented with 16:9
enhancement. Even more impressive is the studio's commitment to releasing
their dvd titles with both DTS & Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. At
first, DREAMWORKS released their dvd titles separately. If you wanted DTS
you had to buy the "DTS" version separately from the Dolby Digital 5.1
version. Now, however, with the exception of "PRINCE OF EGYPT" and
"JOSEPH:KING OF DREAMS", all of their new dvd releases feature both
DTS & Dolby Digital!
Hooray! Although the transfer appears a little grainy at points, we
noticed the same problem in its theatrical showing, possibly due to the film's
more modest budget. Still, the dvd transfer appears to be sharper overall.
There are no artifacts and color values are solid with fine resolution.
Fleshtones are natural and the contrast is fine.
While both the DOLBY DIGITAL and DTS 5.1 soundtracks offer the same active mix,
the DTS version tends to offer better bass quality, particularly when the pop
soundtrack kicks in. Both mixes are aggressive however, and either one is
certain to please.
