BUENA VISTA is releasing "RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS" on dvd. Originally created for the Showtime series, "REBEL HIGHWAYS", "RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS" is a remake of a 1950's juvenile delinquent film.  Unlike most remakes, this one is not only superior to the original, but is also an all around enjoyable comedy on its own! Directed with the dark comedic flair of Joe Dante, he pays homage to Roger Corman and even John Waters!  Three teenagers, bored with their 1950's suburban life, decide to fake their own kidnapping, steal a car, and chase down the boyfriend who has skipped town. Their escapades provide moments of laughs, thrills, and "movie-style" lessons. There are also some great cameos, eg. Fabian!

It's a fun film and much better than any of the others of the series.

BUENA VISTA has provided the correct 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Colors are solid throughout. For a low-budget film, the production design is impressive and well complimented here. There's an intentionally gritty look, but great detail throughout. Contrast is impressive with clarity in even the darkest scenes. Fleshtones appear natural.

BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 2.0 Mix.  Most of the separation effects are targeted towards the front soundstage, but there are a few marginally effective surround elements. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
