Before Director Tom Tykwer made the horrible film, "PERFUME," he crafted one of the best films of the '90s, "RUN LOLA RUN." Tykwer's film, explores the same short, compelling narrative three times with alternative outcomes, and it's brilliant! When Lola's boyfriend has a bag filled with Deutschemarks, stolen, she only has 20 minutes to replace it, or dire consequences await him. Blending creative, fluid editing, a terrific score, great acting and tight direction, "RUN LOLA RUN" is unusually refreshing, from beginning to end, in a 80 minute film.
SONY has provided a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer with the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio. While there's still some of the grain found on the standard dvd, the color quality and detail is extraordinary in every frame. It's reference quality. "RUN LOLA RUN" is one of the best looking transfers so far in 2008.
SONY has provided two Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mixes for this release, the original German mix and the Dubbed in English version. Ambient effects are effectively utilized throughout. An aggressive mix, even the most subtle nuances are impressive. The Dubbed version is surprisingly effective, although the original is notably better in its overall impact.
Extras from the original dvd have been carried over.
