"SCARY MOVIE 4: UNRATED AND UNCENSORED" is now available on HD-DVD from the Weinstein Company.  While enough moviegoers have liked the franchise to bring about "4" films, this reviewer felt that only the "2nd" one was funny(for the most part). "SCARY MOVIE 4" is in league with the others, parodying every horror film it hasn't done already in the previous films. This is problematic, as there haven't been that many notable horror films since the third one, making it necessary to parody non-horror films, like "BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN".  When does making "gay" joke references to that film become tired and old? It felt dull when Robin Williams was doing it on every late-night talk-show, and that was when the film was new!!!

This "UNRATED" version includes slightly more crude verbiage than the PG-13 film, but nothing that notably calls for a restricted audience.  There are some funny gags, but amongst hundreds thrown out, there should be many, many more that bring about laughter than what's here. Of course, younger male viewers will probably appreciate Carmen Electra and a few other scenes mixing sex with humor.

GENIUS PRODUCTS has provided a 1080p/MPEG-4 transfer with 1.85:1 aspect ratio.  Colors are generally rich although oversaturated in a few scenes. Blacks and grays are deep, providing good detail in darker scenes. However, it's only during the brighter scenes that the image offers nearly three-dimensional qualities.

GENIUS PRODUCTS has provided a DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS 5.1 mix.  It's not an aggressive mix, although surrounds are effective in a few key sequences. The front soundstage offer a multitude of separation effects, although this film features a typical comedy mix, focusing most sound on the center channel.  Bass effects are impressive when utilized. Dialogue is always intelligible.

The audio commentary provided here is extremely funny and more entertaining than the actual film. There are several featurettes and there are more deleted scenes included here than on the standard dvd.
