To say a film isn't as good as "SCARY MOVIE" or even "SCARY MOVIE 2", is pretty scary in itself! Those two films were generally mediocre, but with some genuinely funny moments. This time out, The Wayans Brothers are no longer involved and the film's been left to Director David Zucker and his writing collaborator, Pat Proft. While there are a couple of funny moments, there's far too much dead space in between. While none of the films in the series had a real semblance of plot, this entry's "attempt" at one only calls more attention how bad it is. All the films are known for their spoofs on popular films of the sci-fi/horror genre. Unfortunately for "SCARY MOVIE 3.5", far too much time has been devoted to spoofing "8 Mile", a horribly overrated film in its own right!
"SCARY MOVIE 3" has already been available on dvd, so "SCARY MOVIE 3.5" is basically the same film with plenty of extras that weren't available in the previous release.
BUENA VISTA has provided a 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. In spite of some artifacts, the image is generally sharp. Colors are solid and there's fine detail, even in the darker scenes.
BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. Unfortunately, surrounds are rarely noticeable, except for the "8 Mile" scenes, and to boost the music cues. There is plenty of separation with the front soundstage. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
David Zucker, Proft, Craig Mazin and producer Robert Weiss are on hand for a brand new commentary that's much more entertaining than the one offered on the previous version.
In addition to the same deleted scenes from the previous version, there are six other deleted scenes "new" to dvd. None are that funny.
For fans of the series, "SCARY MOVIE 3.5" is superior to the previously available "SCARY MOVIE 3" and worth owning.
