One of the most unjustly overlooked films at the Oscars, “SEABISCUIT” is now available from UNIVERSAL on HD-DVD.  Although the dvd looked quite good, it doesn’t come close in the quality that’s been achieved with this 1080p transfer from UNIVERSAL.

While theatergoers certainly and wrongly mistook the film for a “horse story”, it’s about so much more. It’s about the human condition.  Sure, the masses cheered for the horse to succeed, but their concerns served as a metaphor for their own plight, and need for a redemptive comeback of some kind.

Director Gary Ross utilizes the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with great skill and maximum impact here.  UNIVERSAL has provided a transfer with incredible contrast, vibrant colors and deep blacks and grays.  The detail is outstanding in every scene.  In even the darkest dreary scenes, there’s incredible depth.  This is one of the best looking HD-DVDS to be released so far.

UNIVERSAL has provided a DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS 5.1 mix. It’s an engaging mix, blending quiet simple moments, utilizing ambient effects and music with aggressive, heart-pounding ones, wherein all speakers come to life as does the crowd cheering on SEABISCUIT to victory.  A great mix!
