Lina Wertmuller's "SEVEN BEAUTIES" is one of her best works! Giancarlo Giannini stars as a con trying to get ahead and literally survive in WW2 Naples. Wertmuller's blend of slapstick humor and social satire have seldom been this on target, with one exception: SWEPT AWAY(Also available from WELLSPRING!) The 1.85:1 transfer helps make the image look better than many of the film society theatrical screenings we've attended. While the film does show its age, and there are scratches, the fleshtones are fine. The color values are somewhat subdued, as with most of Wertmuller's films. The mono sound offers a dialogue that is clear. Subtitles are easy to discern.
