SRP $29.95 1.85:1(16:9) Dolby Digital 5.1 COLUMBIA TRISTAR

The Korean action thriller, "SHIRI" is now available from COLUMBIA TRISTAR.  Both North and South Korean governments appear to be closer to peaceful coexistence as the presidents of each country plans to attend a soccer game put together by both countries.   Unfortunately, two top South Korean agents have found out that a rebel North Korean group has hijacked a top secret explosive, and plan to use it at the game.  Worse, they know there's a leak within their agency, and a female assassin is on the move.

The film moves at a breakneck pace, as evidenced in a stirring opening sequence. There's plenty of action and fast editing, but the actual story is pretty silly.  While there's plenty of gunfire and explosions, none of the events surrounding it feel believable.  Still, for die-hard action fans, as well as "Asian" film lovers, "SHIRI" is entertaining.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has preserved the film's 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement.  The color values are solid, with outstanding depth in most scenes.  While there's some grain present, the colors are generally so vibrant and free from oversaturation, minor flaws can easily be overlooked.  The contrast is fine, with deep blacks and grays.

The film's original Korean Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is offered as well as a dubbed French or English version.  The dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion, although the dubbing on the english version is horrible!  The soundmix is extremely aggressive, with numeorus bass and LFE effects.  Bullets whish by in all directions, and surrounds get a nice workout.  In addition to trailers, COLUMBIA has included an excellent documentary, "MAKING OF SHIRI", filled with behind-the-scenes footage and more!
