For fans of the long running tv series, "THE SIMPSONS," the long awaited "theatrical" film adaptation of the series, "THE SIMPSONS MOVIE," had to meet many "high" expectations. Thankfully, for the most part, "THE SIMPSONS MOVIE" serves as one of the few tv to screen adaptations that works well. What could've easily become a unnecessarily lengthened half-hour episode, manages to work well as a full-length feature film, with an effective 80+ minute narrative and still filled with numerous hilarious appearances by the multitude of characters, fans have grown to love.
FOX has provided the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio for this 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer. As good as it looks on dvd(and it looks wonderful!), it's far superior on blu-ray. The colors are pushed to the limits of vibrancy, but without ever a hint of over-saturation. The deep blacks and grays provide stunning clarity in every scene. It's hard to think of another (non-pixar)animated film having ever looked this good before! "THE SIMPSONS MOVIE" ranks up there with the best high-definition films available!
FOX has provided a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio mix. Again, this is a stunning presentation! The effects are often as innovative as the jokes, and bass, panning and discrete effects culminate in a wonderfully engaging environment that doesn't let up through the final credits. One small criticism lies in the lack of volume control. Various moments of the film increase in volume without warning or explanation. These moments are few, but annoying.
FOX has provided two great commentaries and deleted scenes.
