SRP $24.95 1.33:1 MONO COLUMBIA TRISTAR

Bogart himself, is supposed to have not cared for "SIROCCO" very much. Still, this reviewer found it entertaining despite its obvious failed attempt in making another "CASABLANCA."   Actually, it's much more of an "anti-Casablanca" in its content.  Here, Bogie plays Harry Smith, a gun runner helping rebels fight the French army occupying Syria in 1925.   Lee J. Cobb provides a noteworthy performance as an incorruptible French Intelligence officer trying to bring about a cease-fire to the fighting, while growing ever suspicious and abusive towards his lover, Marta Toren, a woman who has also caught Bogart's eye.

Sounds familiar? It's not in the same league as "CASABLANCA," but it's still fun.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR provides a full-frame version of the film, and while the original aspect ratio provides a smidgen of more information on the side, it's barely noticeable.  The image is generally decent, although there's excessive grain in spots. Blacks and grays are deep.

The monaural soundtrack is sharp. There is no background hiss, and it's entirely free of distortion. Dialogue is always intelligible. Several trailers are included.
