SRP $19.99 1.85:1(16:9) DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 BUENA VISTA

Arguably, one of the last, great "independent" films, "SLING BLADE" has been re-released as a "Director's Cut" as part of the MIRAMAX Collector's series.  Billy Bob Thornton handles the reins as director, writer and star of this classic and in spite of any of his more recent film selection shortcomings, "SLING BLADE" is an American cinematic masterpiece!

An extension of a short film he made earlier, "SLING BLADE" offers raw performances from everyone involved and Thornton proves again and again and again, that there can be extremely powerful moments built around silence and meditation.  Thornton also deserves credit for finding and nurturing talent wherein it was very hard to find.  John Ritter is perfectly cast here and his performance is not only terrific, it's "Oscar" worthy!

MIRAMAX's previous release of "SLING BLADE" offered 1.85:1 aspect ratio, but without 16:9 enhancement. It was acceptable, but didn't live up to what was capable on dvd, even then!

MIRAMAX has made a huge improvement with this release! Now, the 1.85:1 image has been remastered with 16:9 enhancement.  Colors are much more consistent in tone and overall quality.  Contrast is also greatly improved and there's much more detail in darker scenes.

MIRAMAX has included a new 5.1 mix for this release. The new mix doesn't add anything over the original 2.0 mix, as the film's original production limitations focused on aspects more crucial than ambience and discrete effects.  Still, the 5.1 does manage to enhance a few of the film's most effective moments in regards to the film score. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

This "2 disc" set offers numerous extras!  An audio commentary with Thornton, (most of which was offered on the Criterion laserdisc)has been added for this release! It's a great commentary! Even with long lulls in commentary, Thornton's insight is always intriguing.

A great documentary, "MR. THORNTON GOES TO HOLLYWOOD" offers more insight into this talent, exploring his earlier roles and influences.  A "BRAVO PROFILE" on Thornton is also included.

A roundtable discussion with Thornton, Dwight Yoakam, Mickey Jones and David Bushnell, is also included.

Even after a conversation with the film's composer and behind-the-scenes footage, there's still even more to be found here! All this for only $19.99! No excuse not to get this!
