For fans and owners of the previous "SPIDERMAN 2" dvd release, the big question is whether or not extra footage for the "SPIDERMAN 2.1" version is enough to recommend adding this one to the collection? The answer is "YES!" While many of the features on the previous version aren't here, even the 8 minutes of new and extended footage add greatly to an already great film!
More importantly, the transfer is even improved upon. While the previous version offered rich colors, they're more vibrant here and the contrast is noticeably better, with deeper blacks and grays.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix appears to be undistinguishable from the previous one. Both are dynamic, aggressive and amongst the best mixes available on dvd. Bass, discrete and panning effects engulf the audience from beginning to end.
A commentary with the film's producer and screenwriter is included, but it's rather mundane. It's a shame the commentary from the previous dvd with Maguire and Sam Raimi hasn't been included here. There are also several visual effects featurettes.
