While trekkies may not hold the character of Captain Jonathan Archer(Scot Bakula)in the same regard as Kirk or Picard, he’s an intriguing and amiable character all the same. Unfortunately, unlike the other series involving those captains, for some reason “STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE” focuses much more on a sweeping storyline than on its characters. SEASON 3 isn’t as dark as “SEASON 2” was, but there’s more than enough dreariness to go around here. The newest enemy to face is the Suliban.
PARAMOUNT has again presented the series in 1.78:1 aspect ratio, with 16:9 enhancement. There’s noticeable improvement over the original tv airings, allowing for sharper detail and colors. Sure, the series is intentionally dark a lot of the time, but at least now there’s great detail within the dark corridors depicted here.
PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. Like the earlier seasons offered, this isn’t an aggressive mix. There are some effective separation effects, but they’re almost exclusively delegated to the front soundstage. Some minor atmospheric effects make their way to surrounds, but they’re sparse. There are some effective bass moments as well.
PARAMOUNT has included some great extras! Brannon Braga(MR. JERI RYAN)and Rick Berman offer their insight in one featurette. Roxanne Dawson offers her insight as a director on the series, and it’s great. There are some other minor featurettes as well and some commentaries.
