FOX has released "TAXI", the "attempted" comedy remake of a French film by the same name. Saturday Night Live star, Jimmy Fallon stars as a New York cop with such a bad driving record he now needs the help of a "New" New York cab driver, Queen Latifah to get him around while he tries to bust a European gang of thieves in bikinis, led by Gisele Bundchen. Why bikinis? Why not? That seems to be the reasoning behind every silly aspect of this film. There's little rhyme or reason for anything that happens. There's also no attempt for any semblance of reality, especially in regards to the ridiculously souped up taxi driven by Latifah.
There are a few laughs and even a good chase scene, but these are far too rare in a film that feels longer than it is.
FOX has preserved the film's 2.35:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement. It looks terrific. Colors are solid and there's great detail throughout. Contrast is impressive with great clarity in dark scenes. Fleshtones appear natural.
FOX has presented a DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 mix. While not overly aggressive, there are a fair share of directional/sweeping effects during key scenes. The chase scenes are also enhanced with a strong sense of bass. The music is well complimented through all speakers. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.
FOX has included a lot of extras for this release. To begin with, there is an extended version of the film, for those actually wanting more! An audio commentary with the film's director is included. It offers little for aspiring filmmakers, sounding more like fanfare from "Access Hollywood".
Several featurettes are also included.
