THE NEW GUY
DJ Qualls, the lanky kid from “ROAD TRIP” stars in “THE NEW GUY” as a weakling,
whom after one horribly embarrassing episode to many, lands himself in jail, and
learns how to transform his identity from a cellmate. Upon release, he assumes
a new identity(THE NEW GUY) and starts over at a new high school. Soon enough,
He’s popular on campus, even winning the affections of the popular
cheerleaders. Of course, there’s a moral to the plot, and he’s forgotten the
true friends who’ve been there for him in the past. Eliza Dushku co-stars, and
looks better than she ever has before. One scene in particular, with her trying
on swimsuits, will leave fans very pleased.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with options of either full-frame or
1.85:1 with 16:9 enhancement. The image is inconsistent, at times looking
spectacular, with great depth and solid colors, but there are times in which the
film looks grainy, with subdued colors and only adequate contrast.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix offers some surround moments, but most of the
directional effects are focused on the front soundstage. There’s a surprising
amount of bass, and it helps the film’s energetic score.
