Director Edward Zwick is responsible for creating some splendid action scenes within dramas, e.g. "Glory", "Legends of the Fall", "Courage Under Fire". "The Siege" continues this trend, but unlike his other films, this one cries out to be an action film all the way through. The drama just doesn't hold up nearly as well under any close observation. However, the brilliance depicted within the opening sequence is breathtaking, and scenes like it make interspersed throughout the film make "The Siege" worth watching.
The FOX transfer quality also makes this a wonderful viewing experience. Even without 16:9 enhancement, the picture has wonderful clarity with sharp definition, excellent color levels and a dynamic dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack that is sure to test the limits of most sub-woofers.

The long awaited "X-Files" movie has arrived, and it's been worth the wait. Again, even without the 16:9 enhancement we wish FOX would commit to, the transfer is extremely sharp, even in the dark cave sequence opening the film. Contrast levels aren't flawless though, with some scenes having less clarity than others. Overall, the color levels are fine. The dolby digital 5.1 sound is at times, awsome! While we still prefer the DTS sound quality on laserdisc, the visual quality of the transfer is typically slightly better. Also included is a great commentary and featurette. We weren't able to discern which footage was new, and unavailable in the theatrical version, as promoted here. We wish FOX would have lableled these scenes as MGM has done with their special footage on "KINGPIN".
