MGM has released a Special Edition for "Tomorrow Never Dies" and while their previous version had some nice features, this one's loaded with enough extras to make the higher price worth it. In addition to the same slick looking dvd transfer as the earlier version, there's also an entertaining running commentary option with the film's director, Roger Spottiswoode. He's new to the Bond series, but he demonstrates a passion for his craft as well as an intent to improve upon the films, rather than just duplicate a formula. The transfer is excellent, with no artifacts, perfect color values and excellent contrast. The dolby digital 5.1 sound is extremely energetic, boasting numerous LFE effects for the sub-woofer, as well as an active mix for directional effects. Sheryl Crow's music video is intact as well as many other extras. Our favorite of these is the digital effects reel, demonstrating just how some astonishing effects were created.
