SRP $19.98 1.66:1(16:9) STEREO ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT

Christopher Lee gives one of his better, as well as most disturbing, performances, in "TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER."  Lee plays Father Michael Rayner, excommunicated from the church for heresy. He is a devil worshiper, after all!  Rayner has organized a satanic cult, intent on bringing the Devil to earth as a supreme ruler, in human form. The cult forcibly rapes women in the hopes their offspring will aid in completing their mission.  The beautiful Nastassja Kinski plays Catherine, one of the babies donated by her father. When Catherine turns 18, she'll take place in a final ritual to bring about Satan's return.  The father begins to feel guilty about his actions, deciding to rescue her from the satanic convent she's now part of.  Some of the film is predictable, however, there are some real thrills and surprises. Unlike most Hammer films, this one's not as gory as one would expect.  Still, it makes up for it in sex, and there's plenty of it!  Not quite as brilliant as "ROSEMARY'S BABY," but entertaining just the same!

ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT has preserved the film's 1.66:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement.  There are some signs of its age, with some scratches here and there, but overall, the colors are solid, and contrast is excellent, with deep blacks and grays.  There is fine definition in darker scenes.  Fleshtones appear natural throughout.

The sound is actually monaural, and while dialogue is intelligible, fidelity is limited. The score is impressive, and would've benefited from a "CHACE" remastering.

Interviews with the film's stars, as well as a theatrical trailer, have been included.
