NEW LINE has released a wonderful dvd presentation of the critically acclaimed "TUMBLEWEEDS".  This is one film that actually deserves the acclaim its received.  To begin with, it's actually representative of what an "independent" film used to be!!!  Modestly budgeted, without the typical studio conventions associated with so called "indie" films today!  The actors are all outstanding!  "TUMBLEWEEDS" is similar in plot to "ANYWHERE BUT HERE", but, as much as this reviewer also liked that film, this is more realistic, and ultimately more impressive!!!

The dvd transfer is great!  While there's some grain present, the colors are generally bright, and contrast, especially in darker moments, is perfect.  Fleshtones are consistent.  The dolby digital 5.1 mix, is subdued, but effective.  Director Gavin O' Connor offers a running commentary on an isolated track, and while it's not as insightful as others we've heard, it's still informative for aspiring directors.
