Having achieved an even bigger following upon his
death, Tupac Shakur
fans will likely love the new PARAMOUNT dvd release of “TUPAC:RESURRECTION.” In Tupac’s own words, we hear about his life, posthumously. For those critics that group all rappers together, there is something to be learned from the film. Shakur is more
intelligent and reflective than this critic had assumed. While revisiting his short but significant life, it's hard not to be impressed, and angered at the stupidity of his death.
Extremely well shot, there are plenty of haunting images, and “TUPAC-RESURRECTION”, at times, evokes the kind of unforgettable imagery found in Erol Morris’ films.
PARAMOUNT has presented the film with its proper
1.85:1 aspect ratio
and 16:9 enhancement. The image is a solid representation of the
cinematic release, however image quality varies depending upon the
material. Newer footage looks rich and vibrant, but older footage can
be quite grainy.
PARAMOUNT has presented a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix.
There are no
surround effects to speak of, but the 5.1 comes in handy while
presenting the phonomenal music tracks. Dialogue is always
intelligible and free from distortion.
Thankfully, PARAMOUNT has included some great extras! There are
separate audio commentaries, all quite interesting, and one from
Tupac’s mom. There are deleted scenes and two terrific interviews
with Tupac. We also get interviews with a number of friends and
celebrities that were and were not fans. Several videos are also
