One of the best family films to come out in years, "WATERHORSE: LEGEND OF THE DEEP" is now available on blu-ray, and hopefully audiences will find this gem and add it to their collection.
When a young boy named Angus, finds a mysterious egg along the grounds of Loch Ness, it's not long before the creature that hatches it causes all kinds of excitement and mischief for several films, as well as Angus' family and the scrutinizing neighbors trying to uncover mysterious goings-ons, that are inherent with an ever-growing Loch Ness Monster. Of course, being a family film, and offering a wide-eyed magical atmosphere, the filmmakers make it clear that the creature is no "monster." It's a loveable, often funny, creature, as adorable as E.T. It's also worth noting, "WATER HORSE" is every bit as entertaining as "E.T." and it's for that reason alone, we highly recommend this as an addition for all families with blu-ray players.
Making it even more tempting is the outstanding transfer! SONY has provided the correct 2.40:1 aspect ratio for this 1080p AVC MPEG-4 blu-ray transfer. The image is almost like a painting with its blending of colors and landscape. The contrast is excellent with deep blacks and grays, offering outstanding detail in the darker scenes. It's a dynamic, flawless transfer!
SONY has provided Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mixes for English, French and Portuguese. The mix is effective, although not aggressive. Surround and discrete effects are utilized effectively at just the right moments, and the wonderful score from James Newton Howard is perfectly balanced and complimented throughout, with all speakers, creating a wonderful environment. Dialogue is typically well balanced, although a few moments required captioning for this reviewer.
Over an hour of featurettes are included, all in HD resolution. Deleted scenes, offering nothing of substance, are also included in HD resolution. Several trailers for films already available on Blu-ray, are also offered in full HD.
