The good news: "WILD HOGS" isn't nearly as bad as "DADDY DAY CAMP." The bad news: It's not good!   John Travolta, William H. Macy, Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence play four semi-losers, unhappy in life, and find a chance to change things while taking a motorcycle journey from Ohio to California. Intended to be a road-trip film, "WILD HOGS" relies too much on predictable, sophomoric jokes to accumulate to anything special. The gay cliche' humor wasn't funny in older films, and it's just pathetic here. The guys running into and becoming pursued by  a gang of bad bikers is also tiring. Worse, everyone here seems miscast. Tim Allen may or may not be a decent guy in real life, but here, he's just boring and annoying.  Younger viewers we watched the film with were laughing out loud continuously. So, maybe immaturity is essential for entertainment value.

BUENA VISTA has provided the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio for both dvd and blu-ray formats.  Colors are solid on both formats, however the dvd image is notably softer looking in comparison to the blu-ray.  The dvd image offers deep blacks, but, again, the blu-ray offers notably improved contrast in darker scenes. In various scenes, the blu-ray offers a much slicker looking image, with deeper colors. Also, the blu-ray offers notably superior depth. The dvd looks good, but "WILD HOGS" is another clear example of how much better a blu-ray can shine over a dvd, when handled correctly.

BUENA VISTA has provided a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix and an additional PCM 5.1 mix for the blu-ray. Both shine! There are numerous directional and surround effects. The bass is used effectively in both formats. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion, even within layers of sound and music effects. The PCM 5.1 mix offers slightly deeper bass and better dynamic range.

BUENA VISTA has provided the same extras on both formats. A commentary with the film's director and writer, featurettes, outtakes and more!
